TPU is an elastomeric polymer combining the processability of thermoplastics with the elasticity of rubber. It offers exceptional abrasion resistance, high tear strength, and good low-temperature flexibility. Polyester-based TPU provides good oil and chemical resistance; polyether-based TPU gives better hydrolysis resistance and low-temperature performance. Applications include cable jackets, pneumatic tubing, shoe soles, watch bands, and protective cases. Modification expands TPU’s range: flame-retardant TPU (often halogen-free) is used for charging cables and mass transit seating. Medical-grade TPU is biocompatible for catheters, IV connectors, and drug delivery systems. Carbon fiber or glass reinforced TPU increases stiffness for drone frames and structural composite parts. Anti-static and conductive TPU grades are used for cleanroom wheels and electronics cases. Transparent TPU (aliphatic) is UV-stable and used for automotive interior films and phone cases. TPU overmolding grades bond to PC, ABS, and nylon for soft-touch grips.
